The Synergy21 USB-C cable is an active cable that has a chip. This is a safety and performance feature to provide the highest possible power permitted for this cable (max 5A). If a device wants to draw more power, this is not possible via this cable, cable fires and overheating are no longer possible.
... the E-Marker is a chip that controls the connection between the connected devices. It queries what data transfer rate and current the host and device support and adjusts the throughput accordingly. An E-marker must be installed for USB 3.1 Gen 2 cables and cables that support more than 3A. It is optional for USB 2.0 cables with 3A support. Basically, it is only required for USB Type-C to Type-C or Thunderbolt 3 cables.
