The Allnet ALL-SG8316M is a
smart managed Layer-2 network switch with 16 ports, designed for use in small and medium-sized workgroups. It offers a
Gigabit LAN speed of 1 Gbit/s per port and is
fanless, making it particularly suitable for office environments where disturbing noise should be avoided. The device features a
non-blocking switch architecture with a switch fabric of 32 Gbps, ensuring high data processing performance and low latency. The 16 RJ45 ports support speeds of 10/100/1000 Mbps and are equipped with Auto-Negotiation as well as Auto MDI/MDI-X, enabling automatic adaptation to speed and duplex mode (half-duplex/full-duplex). The maximum packet processing rate is 1488095 packets per second at 1 Gbit/s with 64-byte packets. The address table includes 8000 entries, and the switch supports
Jumbo Frames up to 10 KByte, increasing efficiency when transmitting large data volumes.
Applications
The switch is designed for use in
48,3 cm ( 19 inch )-racks as well as
25,4 cm ( 10 inch )-enclosure mounting and can also be mounted on a wall or on a desk. The mounting options are enabled by the included brackets for 25,4 cm ( 10 inch ) and 48,3 cm ( 19 inch ). The robust metal housing ensures a stable and long-lasting installation. The operating temperature ranges from 0 °C to 50 °C, and the storage temperature ranges from -40 °C to 70 °C. The operating humidity is 10 % to 95 % RH, non-condensing.
Functions and Equipment in Detail
The ALL-SG8316M supports a variety of Layer-2 functions. These include
VLANs (64 static VLANs, port-based, IEEE 802.1Q Tagged-based),
Link Aggregation according to IEEE 802.3ad (LACP and static trunks) with up to 8 groups and 8 ports per group, as well as
IGMP Snooping for multicast traffic (v1/v2/v3). The
QoS functions include 8 priority queues per port, Rate Limiting (inbound and outbound), Queue Scheduling (WRR, WFQ, Strict Priority, Hybrid), and Class of Service (port-based, flow-based, 802.1p, IP TOS, IP DSCP). For network security,
Storm Control (Broadcast, Unknown Multicast, Unknown Unicast),
DoS Prevention,
Port Isolation, and
Management VLAN are integrated. Authentication is performed via HTTPS and SSL 2.0 with multiple user accounts and multi-level security.
Technology Explained Simply
The switch operates in Store-and-Forward mode, where entire data packets are received, checked, and then forwarded. This ensures high data integrity. Power supply is via an internal power supply unit with 100–240 V AC, which has a maximum power consumption of 15 W. The LED indicators include a Power LED, a System LED, and 24 Port LEDs (Link/Activity). The firmware can be managed via Web-GUI, CLI (Console, RFC854), or SNMP (v1/v2). Additional functions include firmware upgrade, configuration download, DHCP client, DNS client, Port Mirroring (many-to-one), Syslog (local RAM, local Flash, external server), time control (local, SNTP), and cable diagnosis (Cable Test). Support for
IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) reduces energy consumption during inactive connections.
Compatibility and Accessories
The switch is compatible with standard network cables, particularly
CAT5e and
CAT6 patch cables suitable for 10/100/1000 Mbps. Suitable accessories include various lengths of
S-STP(S/FTP) LSZH patch cables in CAT6 (0.25 m to 15 m) as well as
S-FTP (SF/UTP) cables in CAT5e (0.25 m to 5 m). For mounting,
48,3 cm ( 19 inch )-wall brackets (1HE, D54 mm, light grey, SMW series) and
25,4 cm ( 10 inch )-wall enclosures (3HE, 6HE, 9HE, light grey, SMM series) are available. Combining these accessories enables flexible installation in various environments.
Mounting and Installation
Mounting is done either in a 48,3 cm ( 19 inch )-rack, in a 25,4 cm ( 10 inch )-enclosure, or on a wall. The included mounting brackets for 25,4 cm ( 10 inch ) and 48,3 cm ( 19 inch ) facilitate installation. The device dimensions are 216 mm (W) × 133 mm (D) × 42 mm (H). Power supply is via the integrated power supply unit, which is connected directly to the power outlet. The LED indicators serve for status monitoring of power supply, system, and individual ports.
Advantages in Operation
The fanless operation ensures a disturbance-free working environment, especially in offices. The smart managed functions enable central network management via Web-GUI, CLI, or SNMP. Support for VLANs, QoS, Link Aggregation, and IGMP Snooping increases network security and efficiency. Integrated diagnostic functions such as Cable Test and Syslog simplify troubleshooting. Energy efficiency through IEEE 802.3az (EEE) reduces power consumption on inactive ports. The robust metal construction ensures long service life and reliability under various operating conditions.
